“laro ng buhay,” released in 2024 by project:romeo — a duo made up of brothers sean and louie chito bullo — was one of the most challenging covers i’ve worked on.
sean called to brief me right after i’d moved into my new place. i was sitting on the floor, surrounded by boxes, no wifi, using mobile data, and holding my phone.
he sent over a mood board and the unreleased track. i remember playing it on loop while slowly unpacking my stuff, waiting for the visuals to click. it didn’t call for my usual comic-style work, so i leaned into surrealism — softer shapes, strange juxtapositions, a little more stillness. i still snuck in some halftones though. had to leave a fingerprint.
it was unfamiliar, but weirdly refreshing. one of those projects that quietly rearranges your brain a little.
"spectrums act 1: yellow" is the first chapter of samsining’s multi-part album series. she reached out one day to commission an ep cover. she had a clear vision — sent over reference photos, notes, and color cues — but what stood out was how much she trusted me to interpret it in my own voice.
she gave me full creative freedom, which made the process feel more like a collaboration than an assignment.
when it was done, she asked to meet in person. i took her to the same coffee shop where i’d made the piece — seemed fitting. while we talked, she brought up wanting a spotify canvas. i’d never made one before, but i offered anyway.
she said yes.
yennybelles is a filipina voice actress currently based in canada. i created a cover for her "self-help" podcast "breakfast talk with yennybelles." she was the voice behind pnr and hanabi in the mlbb animation series. aside from her podcast, i also created templates for her social media accounts.
